Overview

This course covers High Frequency (HF) Radio Frequency (RF) band and associated characteristics with the ionosphere. In the current age of wide-band communications, such as 4G/5G mobile telephony and satellite communications, there is still need for HF band communications.  Bandwidths in the HF band are extremely narrow in comparison with modern data-hungry communications.  Yet, government agencies, NGOs, aircraft and shipping, and amateurs continue to heavily use the congested HF band for backup communications, strategic communications, research and development, radar and safety.  An understanding of propagation of HF signals via the ionosphere is therefore critical to ensure success of an HF system. 

This course is delivered in collaboration with Ebor Systems.


Intended Audience

This course is suitable for personnel that require an introductory understanding of HF band propagation. It is relevant for managers, technical personnel, commercial personnel, as well as government & defence personnel that require an understanding to assist their work.



Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites other than a basic understanding of frequency and the concept of an electromagnetic wave.
